This topic is so great

hey everyone.
I'm really looking forward to this class and these discussions. I think its great that our identities are kept secret. Race, age, and gender carry so much meaning in today's world. We're given so many privelages and experience so many disadvantages based on our ARGs. Have you really ever take the time to notice?

Hello Everybody-Intro.

I feel that race, age, and gender always come to mind when we characterize a person. This topic is one that we can't ignore if we want society to improve. Race, age, and gender can be studied by our own personal observations.

Hello everyone!

I'm really excited about how all this is going to work. I'm getting the hang out if and hope we have fun with the blogs and feel free to comment on my ideas. I want to know your points of view regarding what we discussed in this forum. Have a nice weekend.

Not sure why I chose RAG...

Gender, race, & age: so important in our society... (any society, since the times of Antiquity, if not earlier). The discussions will be interesting, we'll all learn something new - that's for sure.

Hello...

Hi Everyone,
I'm new to this. I hope I learn alot about blogging and about race, age and gender.

Our country ready for a woman?

Is the press ready? Here is an article <-- CLICK called "all you need is hate" which is of course a play on John Lennon's "All you need is love."

Sociology

Can human behavior be studied? Then whose ideologies are we following?
How can we come to similar understandings? If not, is there a conclusion to be made based upon our own findings?

RAG - RGA - GAR understand it & speak it

These are the 3 big ascribed characteristics: Race, Age, Gender. We are born with these and cannot do anything about it. Achieved characteristics -- education, style, pizzazz, luck, status, industriousness, persistence and other virtues which lead to success. We can also "achieve" failure. "Veils" of race, age, and gender lie across all groups, so Sociologists created a word for it: "intersectionality." Sociologically speaking, we are not so much a person as an intersection.

For our intersection to rise or fall requires opportunities and has constraints. Sets of opportunity and constraint (SOCs) are distributed unevenly in any society. SOCs are met with will & persistence or weakness & depletion. RAG intersections sit on a landscape of human energies.
~a natural (Darwinian?) tendency towards domination separates " rich" from " poor". This 'force' favors the "top" race, age, and gender.
~a blanket of government infrastructure and services
dddDistribution is efficient or ineffective, fair or not.
dddInfrastructure is maintained or not
~The bottom rung has minimal assistance, compounded by drugs and disease—predicaments from which it is a miracle to escape

Is a layer of shared belief that the human endeavor is headed in the right direction required for a group to survive without collapse? How can you have shared beliefs with different RAGs? One person is a RAG intersection in a SOC in social time. The person’s family and friends are interlocking RAGs and SOCs.

For example as a beginning: in the gender gap distinct to the African American community, it is said that men tend to participate in housework more freely. This is "expected" because AA men are more often raised by single moms. Also, during the time of slavery, if both woman and man were out in the field all day, when they got back home the men then didn't wear the mantle of superiority that would grant the right to imply: "Ok, now you do all the work here at home, too." Truth was, most families were broken apart to begin with. Thus the history and the current context of raising African American males in America today provides a unique field to raise unique men.

Understading - or failing to understand - more intersections will help construct the next stage of development of humankind.
